I average 150 mg with glipizide alone, now 110 mg with bitter lemon alone and 96 mg with glipizide and bitter lemon. Glipizide alone lowered my blood sugar but sometimes feel weak.. I'm going to assume it worked because a few days after I started taking this, soda became too sweet for me to drink and even tasted borderline bad. As a result, I drank much more water and unsweetened tea. In fact, I recall avoiding nearly everything that had sugar in it to a large degree and maybe only had a piece of candy once a week. The best part was that I didn't get the 'withdrawal ' headaches I would normally get when I went without soda for the day. The only down side is that once I stopped taking these, the sugar cravings came back. But in all honesty, they were nowhere as near a bad as before.I was very surprised to find that bitter melon definitely lowers your blood sugar. It's actually kind of hard to control, sometimes it's too low. See wikipedia before considering taking this mediation. It also reduces my appetite by a lot. I've lost around 10 lbs taking it, but I keep on having to discontinue it due to it's numerous scary side effects (occasional violent shivering, kidneys hurting slightly, or the weird feeling that it just liquefied some of my belly fat). Every time I stop taking it my blood sugar goes through the roof, so I should probably see a real doctor. Incidentally having the correct bloodsugar also corrected my easily upset stomach, sleepiness at work, and a few other things. This is not a stimulant, but its mechanism of action is not completely explainable simply as a insulin substitute. I think. I should really just go see a real doctor.H O N E S T L Y ... I really did my home work when I decided to DROP Metformin and go completely with Swanson Bitter Melon. I was running 216 on the high side and 150-180 with fasting on 500mg. This was after a diet change. My MD suggested taking 1,000mg of Metformin which I did, bringing fasting in the 120's and high side in the 150's. Months and months of pricking fingers 2 hours after every meal. With my glucose levels still unsatisfactory, my doctor was suggesting an additional medication. My goal is to eliminate medication period! I read about Bitter Melon and decided to give it a go. W O W my fasting is currently is 105 with the high levels being 120..I tend to run high in the evening. So far so good and I have not taken Metformin for two weeks!I waited two weeks or so to write a review on this product due to time frame of taking it. What I noticed is the during 2nd week is when I start seeing a results by keeping my sugar levels to 110-120 morning and 160 after eating dinner but eventually level goes back to normal in few more hours. * My readings are normally on 190-240 in the morning. I also like the capsule where it's coated as some others exposed the smell of this bitter melon. I therefore will continue taking this as my regular diabetes medicines fail to regulate my blood sugar level. I received my A1C results yesterday which dropped .7 or 12 points for just taking the supplement for few weeks. I had 9.0 A1C of last results but my doctor order another testing after one month.
